Tree cover dynamics on the socio-ecological gradient of Chernivtsi region

Purpose. The differences in 20-year tree cover dynamics were analysed for the three experimental strata, which correspond to former administrative districts and are located along landscape socio-ecological gradient on territory of Chernivtsi region. Methods. System analysis, statistical geospatial database Global Forest Watch service used. Results. Three strata have been identified region interpret extremes a intermediate (transitional) zone. was studied (Traditional, Intermediate, Intensive), differ terms natural conditions, forest cover, species composition, as well varying degree local communities’ dependency ecosystem services provided by forests. mountain Traditional stratum is characterized predominance logging over agricultural production; Intensive lowland has high land use, developed agro-industrial complex profitable farms. Intermediate combines both complexes economic features strata. It established that loss period from 2000 2021 amounted 18% stratum, 17% 7.7% stratum. area reforestation 20 years at 1,400 hectares with 11,500 hectares; – 1,250 10,800 1,100 1,510 hectares. Conclusions. obtained results indicate necessity management systems revision taking into account spatial analyzed gradient.
